Leola M. Powell

Birth date: February 12, 1926
Death date: July 6, 2012

Long time Auburn, Washington resident Leola (Lee) Powell passed away on July 6, 2012 at the age of 86. She was born to John and Georgia Jones in Kiowa County, Oklahoma in February, 1926 as the seventh of eleven brothers and sisters. She graduated from Hobart High School in 1944, married Delmar (Del) Powell who was stationed at Fort Sill during World War II, and later joined him in Germany during the allied occupation. After returning to the US they moved to Washington State in 1948 and settled in Auburn in 1981. Del passed away in March, 1997 and Lee remained in her home, staying active in the local community and the Grace Community Church. She loved gardening and painting and participated in the Lydia’s Ladies church group and the Red Hat Ladies.
She is survived by two brothers, Olvis and Billy Zane Jones; two sons, Craig and Pat Powell; and two granddaughters, Salena Chen-Powell, and Amelia Powell.
There will be a graveside service at the Mountain View Cemetery in Auburn at 2:30 on July 13, 2012. Instead of flowers, the family suggests that donations in her memory go to the Grace Community Church or the American Diabetes Association.
